Walgreens Is Buying Duane Reade!

Apparently the deal is in the works for Wal-Greens to buy up all the Duane Reade stores by summers end. There is little enough competition between these drug store chains as it is now prices will only go higher as a result. I've never cared much for Duane Greed and Walgreens does have competitive prices. However without DG around to match and beat will Walgreens decide to up the ante even further?

Pretty soon the only chains remaining on the Planet will be Walgreens and Wal-Mart. The economy and jobs prospects for the next year or so are dismal enough. Now we will literally have our backs to the wall with these two giants of the "Wal" big box store set to be the only possible retail employers and sources for every day items. Anti-Trust laws seem to have taken a back seat to the powers these giants wield.

Update: Apparently the current Duane Reades are going to remain as Duane Reade stores. I can't imagine that making much sense. How can they even be competitive when they are owned by the same company? That would be like Burger King and McDonalds being on the same block and owned by Wal-Mart. Maybe they are?

Toyota BrakePad

Toyota BrakePad, originally uploaded by ⓅⒶⓎⓅⒶⓊⓁ.

It's so surprising to find that the Number 1 Automaker in the world, known for higher standards and dependability, has had such a massive recall of its top selling lines of cars. From the hybrids to the high end vehicles, the brakes are faulty and other bugs are showing up. Imagine if the car maker decided to go into the computer industry? Geez, it wouldn't be much different than buying an HP, Compaq or Dell machine. The exception here is that when you hit the brakes on the machine it crashes. Imagine the street signs on the road for this one: Caution: Blue Screen ahead.

The Ten Commandments Of The Apple IPad

We never stop looking for that all in one multiple function device. Don't put all your eggs in this basket or on this tablet. The Ipad isn't all it's cracked up to be. It doesn't multi-task and it has limited storage capacity. Why should people line up around the block for a product that provides only 64 Gb of storage for $800. There are laptops and netbooks that have more than these do. If Steve Jobs thinks he's leading us to the promised land it seems more like he wants us to worship his golden calf. It will be more akin to a White Elephant than something universally useful. Don't believe the hype and read the fine print.
